Students in Mrs. Anna Lorenze’s sixth and seventh grade Reading and Literature classes just finished reading the book “Shiloh”. After reading the book, the students were given the task of creating a “Save Shiloh” campaign. Each group or individual had to create a persuasive poster and then were given choices for their second piece of campaign material. Groups chose to do the following: a brochure, flyer, social media posts, radio ad script - while two groups chose to create and record a commercial!
Students have three novels left to read this semester, “Hatchet”; “Number the Stars”; and “Prisoner B-3087”. After reading each of these, students will be given a project to go with the books.
Other books the students have read this year are “Weslandia” and “Dear Mr. Henshaw”. After reading “Weslandia” students created a brochure in which they created their own civilizations. They created a name and flag for their civilizations along with clothing, shelter, animals, plants, and a sporting game. When they completed “Dear Mr. Henshaw,” each student chose their favorite author and wrote a letter to them.
